Climate Education and Sustainability
An Daras Trust has Climate Education as a important part of the curriculum experiences in our schools. Our practitioners firmly believe in the importance of engaging pupils with natural and real experiences, understanding more about the planet and their local area, the impact humans can have and to instill a culture and climate of 'hope' for the future. Through a series of connected curriculum activities pupils learn progressively about the environment and the role that they can play- no matter how small.
This is supported through a range of wider experiences, through visiting the Trust's own Education for Sustainability Centre locally, or through our annual Trust Climate and Sustainability Conference with external partners, through annually challenging the Trust Leadership team on our Climate roles and through strong external partnerships we have created locally and nationally.
Our Annual Pupil Conference is a platform for our schools to showcase their individual projects and celebrations. Schools present their Climate Projects to their peers. Projects range from 'Bee Club', to 'Recycling Hero's' to 'Sustainable Transport' and more.
AnDaras Trust schools have regular opportunity to visit our Trust Education for Sustainability Centre in Lewdown where they engage in learning about the environment and their role in nature and protecting the environment. The Centre provides opportunities for pupils to gain appreciation and respect for nature and to understand the impact that people have on the environment.
Pupils are able to develop social skills and work as part of a team through our Trust Capabilities Curriculum. They learn to manage risks through the use of tools. Pupils consider the effects of climate change on the environment. They have the opportunity to take part in practical activities. The opportunities have helped them to understand elements such as eco-systems, pollination and the effects of global warming.
Our Trust leadership team passionately believe in the importance of Climate Education for our pupils as well as endeavouring to carry our more Sustainable and Climate focused practices as set out in our Trust Charter. Our Leadership team have Climate and Sustainability embedded within our annual Trust Improvement Plan and our Trust Sustainability Working Party has set out our Climate Action Plan.
Our Trust Sustainability Working Party consists of a range of stakeholders who meet each half term to review our actions, impact and voice of our pupils. Come and visit our schools to discover more.
