Working Party

Mrs Deborah Saunders

Director of Learning

From it's beginning, I launched and have lead the Trust Climate and Sustainability working party at An Daras. Working together with colleagues from different sectors of the Trust we aim to come together for the benefits of our pupils and young people with passionate care about our the planet for the future.

We all agree that the challenges of climate change are great for everybody, and collectively we work hard to support our children to address these changes with hope and empowerment.

An Daras Trust is an organisation that empowers our children to be agents of change and provides systems and structures to enable them to do so. Our children are passionate about the natural world and want to protect it. Leading the Trust Sustainability working party is an important part of my role to enable pupils to be citizens of the future.

I am very pleased to be a member of the Andaras Trust Climate Education and Sustainability Working Party. The Trust must have a Climate Action Plan and a Sustainability Lead in place by 2025. The challenges of climate change are great for everybody, and I would like to support our children to address these changes with hope and determination and not with fear and anxiety.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) Article 12 states that children have a right to be heard. Children have the right to give their opinions freely on issues that affect them. Adults should listen and take children seriously. Andaras Trust empowers our children to be agents of change and is enabling them to engage in education and training to do so. Our children are passionate about the natural world and want to protect it.
I feel privileged to play a part in supporting our children to influence our community in such a positive way.
